A Midsummer Tale 2020

A Midsummer Tale is a summer-themed narrative writing contest open to non-genre fiction and creative nonfiction.

The theme of the 2020 A Midsummer Tale writing contest is: Quarantine. One definition of quarantine is “a state of enforced isolation.” This year, your midsummer tale must be about being quarantined—or isolated—during the hot summer months. The reason for the quarantine is up to you—a pandemic is not required.

The theme must play an integral role in the story.

Deadline for entries is June 21, 2020.

  1. I’m British and I speak (and write) in English. Do your rules require me to transpose my entry into American?
You do mention spelling and grammar in your terms and conditions.

  2. When you say quarantine, do you mean, the story should be about staying indoors but can go online? Or must it be that the characters isolated by all means with only fruits to eat?

  3. I reviewed the instructions carefully for the Midsummer contest, but I didn’t see anything about spacing for the submission piece–single or double space–which do you prefer?

    • Format as you would an email; single-spaced paragraphs with a space in between.
