TC: Describe yourself (or your site) in five single words.
Baker: Woman, writer, witch, American, satisfied.
TC: Tell us about your first website.
Baker: I had a front page w/ many images on it. I used them b/c I liked them and they were cool. It was a Geocities site and I used their "PageBuilder" feature to create and modify it.
TC: What's the last word or phrase you did a search on?
Baker: "The Sims Official Site" b/c I couldn't remember the URL.
TC: Do you hand-code your pages or use a program?
Baker: I hand code everything. I've used a program in the past but the pages I create w/ them always have errors and it's too much trouble to make changes.
TC: What's your favorite form of potato?
Baker: Either skin-on fries or a mashed potato casserole (I got the recipe from my friend Carolyn).
TC: Describe the perfect pizza.
Baker: Deep dish w/ a slightly crispy and buttery crust, extra cheese, green peppers and onions.
TC: Name your poison.
Baker: Long Island iced tea.
TC: What's the last creative writing you've done?
Baker: For a substantial amount, I'd say some scene sketches/ideas in June or July when I was like eight months pregnant. It didn't work too well. My focus was way off.
TC: What are three essential things in your writing space?
Baker: Besides the computer, I'll say a tasty beverage, music and a scented candle.
TC: Tell us about one of the first things you remember writing.
Baker: I have a single-subject, orange cover spiral-bound notebook here w/ my first "book" in it. It was a story about a girl in 6th grade, which was my current situation. My favorite part was actually coming up w/ all the characters' names. My protagonist was "Jill."
TC: Who was the first person to encourage your writing?
Baker: My fifth grade teacher Mrs. Crum, who had me go read a story I'd written (about a boy and an alien and a bike) to the fourth and the third grades.
TC: Describe your current mood in one word.
Baker: Anticipatory.
TC: What one thing is guaranteed you laugh?
Baker: Eddie Izzard's standup.
TC: What was the greatest invention of the 20th century?
Baker: Plastic.
TC: What is your favorite word?
Baker: Gobsmacked.
TC: What is your least favorite word?
Baker: Bawl.
TC: What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? What turns you off?
Baker: People who present things in new or unusual ways spark my brain. Even if I disagree w/ what they're saying, if the presentation itself is convincing, I can appreciate that. Inflexibility and fundamentalism turn me way off.
TC: What is your favorite curse word?
Baker: Fuck (I'm a traditionalist).
TC: What sound or noise do you love?
Baker: Gathering thunderstorms, surf, songbirds, wuthering wind.
TC: What sound or noise do you hate?
Baker: Anything loud and/or sudden, like pots banging together.
TC: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Baker: Archaeologist, architect or marine biologist. "You know I always wanted to pretend to be an architect."
TC: What profession would you not like to do?
Baker: Assistant crack whore
TC: If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Baker: "The show starts in five minutes."
TC: Where do you call home? Are you there now, and if not, where are you?
Baker: Wherever my husband, dog and baby are and I'm there.
